(Natural selection)
- change in allele frequency over time
- not a change of species
- evolution follows change in gene frequency
- gene flow - migration, isolation
- transfer of alleles of genes from one population to another (Wikipedia)
- random reproduction (cross-over)
- gene flow - migration, isolation
- natural selection (自然選択説)
-
- evolution doesn't seek perfect, but just seek to be better than rest in population
- relative major
- evolution doesn't seek perfect, but just seek to be better than rest in population
- Only care about passing on genes relative to other
- numbers game
- no optimisation (?)
- numbers game
Darwin
- Worked with natural breeding
- mostly with chicken
- Mendel's genetic work fits together
Natural selection
- 1. Traits vary
- 2. traits are heritable
- 3. animals have more offspring than can survive
- geometric reproduction
- 4. animals compete for resources
- 5. some traits help animals compete and survive
- 6. Winners produce more offspring than losers
- 7. Thus, traits increase in frequency in next generation
- natural selection is predictable force.
- so, evolution is not random, it is directed
- does not predict (?)
- evolution does not work on non-functional traits.
- systems get more complicated (?)
- does behavior evolve?
(http://ffeck.tsuchigumo.com/ )

- primates are categorised by taxonomy
- can be flexible and adaptive
- cultural behavior
- e.g., sexual behaviour - how we see female and male relationships
- altruism (利他主義): providing (physical) benefit to another at a cost to self
- primates are categorised by taxonomy
Natural selection problems when Darwin states the theorem
- 1. mechanism of inheritance
- now its perfect by Mendel
- 2. altruism (evolves)

Primates tend to show altruism
here, Altruism is explained by
1. Kin selection (血縁選択説)

- body viewed as carrier of gene (sperm or egg)
- genetic benefit
- variation 0 to 1:
- e.g., 0.5 from Mom, 0.5 from Dad.
- Animals (?)
- proximity
- cognitive ability
- imprinting pattern
- sharing genes
- now direct altruism
- proportion to relationship
2. reciprocal altruism (互恵的利他主義)
